Koreans in Mexico: Mérida 2020 / by Schmoo Theune

A little bit late, but I’ve returned a bit early from a too-short visit to Mexico, where I was investigating Korean descendants in the Yucátan area. Due to the situation with Coronavirus which changed overnight, I came home just a few days later.

I still was able to start this story and have plenty of things to think about already. Although I am unsure of whether or not I can go back to continue, I still have plenty to say on this topic as a Korean immigrant, myself, and still want to make the most of this experience and (as usual) spark ideas in others on the topic of identity.

Hopefully I will have more to say later. In the meantime, let’s focus on what’s important — stay safe and healthy wherever you are.

PS. I’ve put my on-the-ground videos on my Instagram Story Highlights under “Mérida 🇰🇷,” so if you’re quarantined at home, come with me to Mexico!
